[Free climbing]

Sloan doesn't need ropes or any other equipment to mount a tree or building as long as there is enough grip for his hands and feet.

[Free running/Stealth]

Ferret taught him how to escape fast and unseen. Sloan knows how to move to make a minimum of noise. He can also keep still over hours, hiding in deep shadows to spy out targets.

[Sword fighting]

Learned over 9 decades from his master. It's his main weapon for mid range fights. When he has the option he chooses to sneak at his target and kill it in one strike. But sometimes a open fight cannot be avoided, especially in a war scenario.

[Daggers]

His weapon of choice for close combat and assassinations.

[Lock picking]

Essential ability for every thief. Can crack any kind of locks as long as it is not enchanted. Depending on the complexity of the lock it can take from seconds to hours to crack them.

☩Vitae:

Sloan was born as an unwanted child of a simple minded wanton. Even his mother does not know who his father is. It could be any of her customers. His mother did not care for him rather she looked upon him as he was an obstacle. She even refused to give him a name. He was raised by all the other wantons that lived within the same brothel. They treated him like a cute little baby doll when there were no customers around. But as he grew older and needed more attention they also pushed him aside. So he started to wander the slums observing the people living there. He picked up begging for food and money as a living and joined a gang of street kids by the age of five. The gang leader called him Sloan, an anagram of the words ‘so alone’. By that time his mother went pregnant again and nine month later gave birth to his half brother. As before she did not care for the baby at all. Sloan loved his little baby brother from the very first moment he saw him peacefully sleeping in his crib. He named him Daud and took care of him as good as possible but after a year he had to admit that he was not capable to take care for both of them anymore. He fled together with his brother into the slums in search for help. An elderly beggar woman pitied the boys and took them in. The live in the slums was hard but the beggar was very kind to the boys teaching them to treat everyone with respect.

When Sloan turned twelve the beggar woman fell ill with pneumonia. Sloan new that she would die without proper treatment and medication and that it would cost a lot of money. So he decided to raise the money in some other way than begging. The next market day he hid himself among the stands, watching the crowds. It did not take long until he noticed a thief who robbed wealthy merchants. Sloan was surprised that the thief was not noticed by anyone else as for him it was obvious what was going on. He followed the man through half of the city to his hiding place. Sloan hid nearby and waited until the man left again. Then he infiltrated the hideout to steal the thief's spoils. Of course, this was not just lying around, but was kept safe in a chest with a complicated closing mechanism. He tried for hours to pick that lock not noticing how time passed by. When the thief returned to his hiding place and found the boy in front of the chest he was angry and amazed at the same time. At first he wanted to strike the boy down, but then he felt pity for the weak child. Sloan told the man, who had introduced himself as Ferret, how he had found him, persecuted, and then infiltrated his hideout and he told him why he did so. To his surprise, Sloan received a few coins under the condition to come back the next day.

When he visited the thief the next day he had built up a hodgepodge of different locks. Ferret introduced the different types of locks and how to pick them then demanded Sloan to crack them which Sloan did. He was not as fast as Ferret but with a bit of patients he figured them all out. Apparently Sloan was a quick learner, very inquisitive and soaked up everything like a sponge. Impressed by the quick wit of the boy Ferret gave him more coins with the request to come again.

From then on, Sloan visited the thief every day that showed him the thief’s craft. He felt bad to leave his little brother alone with the sick woman without telling him what he was up to. But he was not yet willing to tell him as stealing was nothing one could be proud of.

Soon, Sloan had enough money for his surrogate mother’s treatment. Unfortunately, the disease was too far advanced and the beggar died a short time later. Ferret, who had become fond of the boy offered Sloan to take him and his brother in when he heard that the woman had died. Sloan gratefully accepted the offer.

After a few weeks Sloan mastered the craft good enough to accompany Ferret in raids. The older he got the more tricky tasks were appointed to him in these raids and the greater the share of the spoils which he received. As years passed by Sloan proofed to be helpful and followed up into the footsteps of his mentor. He was relieved to see that his younger brother was showing talent as well. Daud  learned to master shapeshifting and used his were rat abilities for their advantage. However it hurt Sloan to see his brother was offended by others for being a crossbreed. He tried to shield him from those people but now and then Daud still got involved in bar fights.

Rumors started to spread about thieves teamed up, robbing the richest merchants of the town. The people became wary making it more and more dangerous for the team to operate in the shadows. So they decided to leave their hideout and travel to another town. On their way they stumbled upon a baddish guarded camp. Daud spied on it and found out that there were many riches and enchant items scattered in the tents like trinkets. Ferret left it to the youngsters to sneak into the camp and take as much as possible. No sooner said than done. The next night Sloan and Daud snuck into an unguarded tent. While Daud was keeping watch Sloan stuffed his pockets. But as he turned to leave he found himself face to face with the owner of the tent that had appeared in his back like out of nowhere. Sloan dropped the spoil and raised his hands to surrender.

Daud heard the shattering and took a look inside the tent. He found his brother cornered by only one man. Daud drew his knife and launched at the stranger. A fight arose. The stranger proved to be not a mere living being but an undead necromancer too strong to be defeated. He disarmed Daud with ease and wanted to give him a final blow but Sloan got in between, taking it, sacrificing himself for his brothers sake.

But Daud refused to run and stayed at the side of his deceasing brother. Impressed by the fortitude and brotherly love the necromancer raised the deceased brother and let the other decide about his own fate. Daud scared of the thought of being separated from his brother chose to share the same fate.

Both Ghouls under Melvalas command now, they joined Xaphan. Under the custody of his master, Sloan learned how use sword and dagger to defend his master and himself. He also learned how to control quintessence and how to channel it to his limbs to make him more agile.

New
For a reason unknown Sloan was traded away to
Miloš. Of course the ghoul is as loyal to his new master as he was to his former master always anxious to satisfy him. Ostensible nothing has changed, in secret Sloan, however, suffers from the separation from his brother, with whom he has been through so much together, making him even more introvert than he already was.
